TikTok has its own LIVE Goal: you describe the goal, pick a gift and a quantity, and show it to viewers. To count coins from every gift, or to choose how the bar looks and what happens when it fills, use a goal overlay. In BetterTok, open Goal Overlays, edit the Coins Goal, set a title and a target, and paste its link into TikTok LIVE Studio or OBS.
What you need
- For TikTok's LIVE Goal: nothing beyond TikTok, as long as you can receive Gifts
- For a goal overlay: a BetterTok account, plus LIVE Studio or OBS on a computer
Using TikTok's own LIVE Goal
TikTok's LIVE Goal is built in and takes a minute. In LIVE Studio:
- Open LIVE Goal and switch on its pop-up.
- Choose a description for your goal.
- Choose a gift and how many you want.
- Add a prize for your top contributors if you like, and turn on the sticker so viewers can see the goal.
TikTok's LIVE Goal counts the gifts you pick. A goal overlay is the better fit when you want a total across every gift, your own design, or a target that moves by itself.
Set up a coin goal overlay
Open Goal Overlays and pick a shape
Open Overlays in the sidebar and choose Goal Overlays. It first asks what shape your goals should be. For the classic bar, choose Bar goals and press Use progress bars.
Choose what it counts
Press Edit on the goal you want. Coins Goal adds up the coins from every gift. Gifts Sent Goal counts how many gifts arrive, so small gifts matter as much as big ones.
Write the title and the target
Give it a short Goal title viewers get at a glance, and a Target value you can reach this LIVE.
Choose what happens when it fills
Auto-extend goal is on by default: it raises the target from 100 to 200 to 300, and it overrides the choices below. To choose something else, open More settings and turn it off. Then, under When goal reached, pick Keep visible, Reset to zero, Increase the target, Double the target, Celebrate + hide, or Hide the overlay. Reset on new stream decides whether the next LIVE starts from zero.
Make it easy to read
Open Typography and raise Font size if the numbers look small on your phone. Text effect adds a glow if the bar needs to stand out.
Copy the link and add it
Press Copy live link. In LIVE Studio, click Add source, pick Link and paste it. In OBS, add a Browser source. A goal draws in the centre of its source, so drag the source to where you want the bar. The chip on the preview changes to Connected.
Counting one specific gift
For a goal such as 100 Roses, use a gift challenge. Open Gift Counter from the Overlays menu and press New challenge. In the challenge's Settings, choose the Target gift and the Target, and what happens under When the target is reached. Press Copy link on its card and add it to LIVE Studio or OBS.
Choosing a number, and asking for gifts
Use a recent LIVE as your guide, and set a target you can fill in one stream. A bar that fills gives the room something to celebrate. One stuck at 30% does not.
Say what the goal is for, and keep the ask light. TikTok's LIVE Monetization Guidelines say content may lose monetization if it mechanically and repeatedly solicits Gifts, or pressures viewers through emotion or a sense of obligation. A goal on screen does the asking, so you do not have to repeat it.
What is free
Goal overlays are free in three themes: Classic, Inline and Slant, with no watermark. The Creator plan ($9.99 a month) unlocks the rest, all shown on the goal tracker page.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between TikTok's LIVE Goal and a goal overlay?
TikTok's LIVE Goal is built into TikTok: you pick the gift and the quantity. A goal overlay is a web page you add to your scene, so it can total coins across every gift, count likes, follows or shares too, use your own design, and raise its own target when it fills.
Can a TikTok gift goal count coins instead of one gift?
With an overlay, yes. BetterTok's Coins Goal adds up the coins from every gift toward your target. Gifts Sent Goal counts the number of gifts instead.
Can I run a gift goal and a like goal together?
Yes. Each goal has its own link and its own source. Press Edit on each goal, copy each link, and add both to your scene.
Can the target go up by itself when the goal fills?
Yes. Auto-extend goal is on by default and steps the target up for you, from 100 to 200 to 300. Turn it off under More settings if you would rather pick Increase the target or Double the target under When goal reached.
Does a goal carry over to my next LIVE?
That is the Reset on new stream setting. Turn it on for a fresh goal each LIVE, or off to carry a goal across streams for a longer target.
